Time to vote for or against Dale Earnhardt Jr. as Most Popular Driver
The polls are open! The National Motorsports Press Association has opened the voting for NASCAR's 2012 Most Popular Driver. And while Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won it nine years running, that's not to say he won't win it again! Really! It could happen! Maybe it'll be Danica?
Anyway, here's how it works. From now to early September, you can vote once per day for your favorite driver at MostPopularDriver.com. Once the Chase begins, the field will be narrowed to the top 10 drivers, and they'll battle it out in a no-holds-barred brawl. Or online voting, whichever.
So there you go. Click away, friends. Any guesses who the other top 9 will be?

Danica Patrick to compete in Tony Stewart?s Prelude to the Dream
Danica Patrick is jumping into a dirt car for charity.
Patrick has signed up to compete in the Prelude to the Dream charity race put on by her NASCAR Sprint Cup Series owner (and teammate) Tony Stewart on Wednesday, June 8th at Eldora Speedway.
Stewart owns the dirt track and the Prelude regularly features NASCAR and other major series stars with all of the proceeds going to charity. After racing in a team format for children's hospitals, this year's Prelude is the Feed the Children Prelude to the Dream, with all proceeds benefiting FeedTheChildren.org.
According to Patrick, this will be the first time she's raced on dirt since she was 10 years old.
"I raced on dirt once before in a go-kart when I was young, but that's about it. It's going to be a challenge for sure, but I know Tony has offered to help in any way possible. I'm excited about it, but I'm also nervous," Patrick said in a release. "It's a totally different style of racing, so I'm not sure what to expect. But it's for a great cause with Feed the Children benefiting from the money raised this year, so I'm ready to give it a shot."
Clint Bowyer, who won last year's race, will be joining Patrick and Stewart and 15 other announced drivers, including Justin Allgaier, Aric Almirola, Dave Blaney, Kurt Busch, Ron Capps, Ty Dillon, Bill Elliott, Ray Evernham, David Gilliland, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Kanaan, Bobby Labonte, Ryan Newman, Cruz Pedregon and Kenny Wallace. Six more drivers will be announced next week.
The Prelude to the Dream will once again be televised via HBO Pay-Per-View.
NASCAR trucks driver nabbed in sex sting
Mario Gosselin, who most recently drove for NASCAR in the Camping World Truck Series, has been arrested in a Polk County, Fla. sex sting.
Conducted by the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the sting offered up online advertisements for sex, and Gosselin was among more than 40 individuals who responded to the ads. Those netted in the sting were arrested when they met with undercover detectives.
Gosselin last raced in the Truck Series in 2010, when he competed in 25 races. He gained a bit of notoriety in the Nashville race; wrecked by the lapped truck of Joe Aramendia, Gosselin went to pit road and tried to hit Aramendia's car with a brake hose. Alas, he missed.
Gosselin ran in the Sprint Cup series in 2004, racing at Martinsville and Darlington. At Martinsville, suspension problems ended his day early, while at Darlington, he was flagged for being too slow after just 14 laps.
He is free on $250 bond.

We're only five races into the season, but there's a saying: "Get to five, Chase hopes alive." OK, we just made that up, but it COULD be a saying. Anyway, the top 10 is stuffed with drivers who haven't been there lately, and quite a few well-known names ? Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne ? are on the outside looking in. Who's staying, who's going? Your favorite Yahoo! Presenting the 2012 Fireball Cup, recognizing excellence in NASCAR fighting
Look, let's be honest. We all like NASCAR rivalries here. But even though this is a sport that tracks every single segment of every single lap of every single driver, there is as yet no comprehensive method for tracking the many disputes that occur every week.
Until now. With a deep bow in the direction of our pals at Every Day Should Be Saturday and their Fulmer Cup, we proudly present the 2012 debut of The Fireball Cup, recognizing excellence in NASCAR brawling. (We did a soft launch of this last year, but this is the kind of thing you need to start early in the season.)
Here's how it works. Every week, we'll award points based on participation in fights or rivalries across all series, breaking down in the following way:
? Verbal/Twitter exchange: 1 point
? Bumping cars in an aggressive, making-a-point fashion: 2 points
? Spin, non-critical: 3 points
? Spin, critical: 4 points
? Out of car, punches thrown: 5 points
So far this year, no driver has amassed more than one nomination. (Step it up, guys!) And we will always err on the side of assuming everything is aggressive. Points are cumulative; you can pile up multiple points for a single incident. As a result, we have a surprise leader:
Jeff Gordon, 3 points (see below)
Dale Earnhardt Jr., 2 points (bumping Mark Martin at Vegas)
Matt Kenseth, 1 point (upset at Carl Edwards after Vegas)
Joey Logano, 1 point (angry with Kurt Busch at Daytona/Nationwide)
Ryan Newman, 1 point (hints at retaliation on Edwards after Phoenix)
Danica Patrick, 1 point (rages at Cole Whitt at Daytona/Nationwide)
David Ragan, 1 point (rages at Elliott Sadler at Daytona)
Gordon at Vegas is our first multi-point leader, first for hammering his car into Logano (2 points) and second for his over-the-air shot ("There's going to be a caution soon if this dumb [censored] doesn't get out of the way," 1 point).
So there you have it. Feel free to send in your nominations after each race, and if you have a write-in vote (like somebody going crazy at your local dirt track), hey, let us know that too!
We'll total up the figures and award a Fireball Cup to our brawling champion at the end of the season. Any guesses who it'll be?
