Storm In A Tea Cup: How A Recycled Interview Reignited The Rossi vs Stoner Wars

There is no rivalry in MotoGP more bitter than that between Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner, more bitter even than the one between Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz. It has been a constant element in their relationship since Stoner won his first MotoGP title in 2007 (ironically, Stoner named Rossi as one of his heroes on the t-shirt he wore to celebrate that championship), though hardly a surprise, as the two men are polar opposites in almost every respect, except for their prodigious talent. The rivalry has intensified over the years, stoked by a series of incidents (nicely outlined by the peerless Italian website GPOne.com recently), including the booing of Stoner by Rossi fans at Donington in 2008, the epic battle at Laguna Seca in 2008, and the war of words between the two in 2010, ahead of Rossi's move to Ducati.

The rivalry does not just polarize the two riders, it also polarizes their fans. The comments section of almost any news story featuring the two men is riddled with posts by people blinded by fanaticism, with logic and calm consideration nowhere to be found. This polarization leaves the media with a dilemma: on the one hand, events concerning the two, and verbal exchanges between them need to be treated as newsworthy, and due consideration given to covering them as such. On the other hand, the media operate in the certain knowledge that covering the dispute is sure to sell more newspapers and magazines, generate more traffic to a website, and grab more viewers for a TV show. Reporting on these stories leaves journalists open to charges of sensationalism, but not reporting on them means they can be accused of not doing their jobs.

Audi R8 PD GT650 by Prior Design

Prior Design has announced a new tuning kit for the Audi R8 sports car. Called PD GT650, the new kit is made from high-quality Dura-Flex FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) and features an excellent surface finish that provides sufficient flexibility combined with high stability.

The aerodynamic kit includes a new front bumper with side vents included, a new front lip spoiler and front fenders. Updates continue at the rear with a new bumper with side vents, a new diffuser and wing, plus a racecar-inspired roof scoop. Prior design is also offering new side skirts and a new set of wheels painted in black with red insertions.

The tuner made no updates under the hood, but we believe a 430-horsepower, V-8 engine is more than enough for a sports car.

The price for the new PD GT650 kit is ?19,900 - or about $26,200 at the current exchange rates. Not too shabby.

Jeff Gordon wins final race of the 2012 Sprint Cup Series season

Jeff Gordon began the final race weekend of 2012 answering questions about his actions at Phoenix International Raceway five days before. And he ended the weekend in victory lane after winning the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Of course, he was answering questions about Phoenix there too. Because, in an all-too-coincidental outcome, the driver he had his Phoenix beef with, Clint Bowyer, finished second.

In the clip that's been replayed numerous times on televisions around the country and the world and brought NASCAR (good or bad, depending on your preference) attention on mainstream news outlets all over the country, Gordon retaliated against Bowyer for contact just laps earlier, and crashed both cars in the process. That led to a melee in the pits involving both drivers' teams, Gordon hiding in a tool box next to the scrum and Bowyer sprinting from his car on pit road all the way to Gordon's hauler in search of the four-time champion.

On Friday, Gordon expressed regret for letting his emotions get the best of him at Phoenix, and he and Bowyer both kept level heads during the 400 mile race. While they raced near each other for a significant portion of the race, there were no incidents nor sprints on Sunday.

"Can you believe that?" Gordon asked in victory lane when talking about finishing 1-2 with Bowyer. "You know, I mean there was one restart where I had Joey (Logano) and maybe even Aric (Almirola) and Clint right there surrounding me and, you know, we -- you know, that thing is going to work itself out some way through racing and, you know, I felt terrible about how I went about it and still regret the way I went about it but you know what, I can't take it back. What we can do is look forward and race guys as hard and clean as we possibly can and, you know, this is a great way to get some positive things going because this year has been real up and down. This awesome to have my family here in victory lane."

Logano and Almirola were caught up as collateral damage in the conflict between Bowyer and Gordon.

Kyle Busch led the race's highest number of laps and Martin Truex Jr. was hot on his tail most of the day, but Gordon was never far behind. While he hadn't led a lap until he took the lead for the first and final time, it certainly wasn't a "Where did he come from?" moment.

The catalyst for Gordon's win was a pit stop on lap 159 after the caution flag flew for Ricky Stenhouse's crash on lap 154. That was the race's final caution flag, and it allowed Gordon to make it the rest of the way on fuel on one more stop.

As the laps started to tick down, Busch and Truex were ahead of Gordon like they had been for most of the race. But they didn't pit during the caution for Stenhouse's crash like Gordon did. They needed a caution flag to fill up their gas tanks and stay near the front of the field.

Truex then brushed the wall while in hot pursuit of Busch and started to fade. Busch never got his caution flag. Gordon took the lead with 13 laps to go and kept a significant advantage over Bowyer, who never got close enough to entertain thoughts of revenge for what happened a week ago.

However, had the opportunity presented itself, it might not have been in Bowyer's best interests. Thanks to Jimmie Johnson's mechanical troubles, Bowyer's second place finish meant he jumped Johnson in the points standings to second, 39 points behind Keselowski and a point ahead of Johnson.

Thanks to his win, Gordon finishes the season in 10th place in the standings, four points ahead of Truex, and gets the final spot at the Sprint Cup Series banquet.

Renault Scenic "Cross"

How many of you remember the old Renault Scenic RX? For those of you who don?t remember, it was an attempt ? a rather unsuccessful one — made by Renault back in 2000 to give the Renault Scenic an off-road look.

Renault has decided to apply the same treatment to the new-generation Scenic, but slightly toned down. When compared to the old RX version, which had a spare wheel mounted at the back of the car and offered a four-wheel-drive system, the new version will just have robust-looking bumpers, wider wheel arches and a slightly raised suspension.

Since the "Cross" look is getting more and more fans and more manufactures than ever are expanding their lineups with "Cross" or Allroad versions, Renault is also jumping on that train and its new model will most likely carry the same name.

Expect to see the new Renault Scenic "Cross" launched in March 2013 at the Geneva Motor Show.

2012 season in the rear view: Aric Almirola

Vitals: 20th in the points standings. o wins, 1 top 5, 4 top 10s. 3 DNFs.

Moment to remember: After Richard Petty Motorsports swapped crew chiefs for the final 10 races of the season, Almirola's performance improved after three straight finishes of 26th or worse over the final three races before the Chase.

During the Chase with Todd Parrott as his crew chief, Almirola finished in the top 20 eight times, including a fourth place effort at Martinsville. That wasn't his best performance, though. However, it's in the next section.

Moment to forget: Almirola was dominant in the early stages of the fall Kansas race, leading 69 laps. But then he brushed the wall and was plagued by right front tire problems, problems that were his eventual demise when he smashed the outside wall.

Vitals: Doesn't it seem like Aric Almirola has been around the Cup Series forever? Almirola's been racing in NASCAR's top series since 2007, but has competed in 71 races, just one short of two full seasons. Kind of hard to believe, isn't it?

Almirola proved that he could run up front at Kansas, and qualified in the top five at both Phoenix and Homestead. It'll take a significant leap (or two) for Almirola to be a Chase contender in 2013, but we may look back in a few years and view his performance in the final 10 races as a precursor of things to come.

Sachsenring MotoGP Round Could Move Back To July 14th After F1 Calendar Change

The date of the German round of MotoGP at the Sachsenring is once again surrounded by uncertainty. A minor readjustment of the Formula One calendar means that the German F1 and MotoGP races are once again scheduled for the same date, July 7th, meaning that the Sachsenring race could well be forced to move, with the following week, July 14th being an option, according to German-language website Speedweek.de.

The clash between the two series was caused by Formula One rescheduling the German F1 GP, the second time it has done so. A previous change had forced the Sachsenring to move from July 14th to July 7th, to accommodate F1 on the 14th. But now, the German F1 GP has been moved forward a week, to allow an extra race to be inserted in the calendar on July 21st.

Under an agreement between MotoGP and Formula One, the two series attempt to avoid schedule clashes as much as possible, and especially not to race in the same country on the same date. Holding both F1 and MotoGP in Germany on July 7th would cause major dilemmas for TV companies around the world, but especially in Germany, as to which to focus their resources on.

2013 Provisional Moto3 Line Up Announced: Exciting Bunch Of Rookies Enter The Class

The FIM today announced the provisional entry list for the Moto3 class in 2013. With 2012 champion Sandro Cortese gone, Maverick Viñales starts as favorite for the title, now delighted to be aboard a full factory KTM with JHK Laglisse. Challenging Viñales will be Jonas Folger, the surprise package of 2012 once he had switched to a Kalex KTM with Aspar, and this year's runner Luis Salom. Alex Rins will be a rider to watch, the young Spaniard having impressed in the latter part of his rookie season.

A fantastic crop of young rookies enters Moto3, most of them coming up from the Red Bull Rookies cup. Germans Florian Alt and Philipp Oettl are joined by Belgian youngster Livio Loi, all three offering an interesting prospect. From the Spanish CEV championship comes Francesco Bagnaia, hotly fancied by some observers, the young Italian slotting in alongside Romano Fenati in the Team Italia squad.

Storied NASCAR driver Kimi Raikkonen wins Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

And they said it couldn't be done.

No one could go to NASCAR, conquer it with the force of a thousand suns, and then return to Formula 1 and win again. Well, Kimi Raikkonen has done it.

Raikkonen won Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for his first Formula 1 win since he jaunted over to NASCAR in 2011, and his first win in the series since the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix. It was the first F1 win for Lotus this year as well, and Raikkonen became the eighth different F1 driver to win a race this year after the first seven races featured seven different winners.

And if you're scrambling to look up the exact numbers of Kimi's NASCAR dominance to quiz your friends today, we've got you covered. Last year, Raikkonen entered two events (both sponsored by NASCAR mainstay Perky Jerky), where he finished 15th at the Charlotte Truck Series race for Kyle Busch Motorsports and 27th in the Charlotte Nationwide race driving Joe Nemechek's No. 87 with equipment from KBM.

So you can see why NASCAR was so easy for Kimi. And now, it looks like Formula 1 is too. What could be next?

Brad Keselowski cites Ray Lewis as inspiration

Brad Keselowski may be just a few days from claiming a NASCAR Sprint Cup championship, capping an astronomical 18-month rise from virtual anonymity to elite status. And what's gotten him going? A commercial.

Well, not just any commercial. An EA Sports/Madden 13 commercial featuring an inspirational Ray Lewis. Yes, this is the world we're living in now. Keselowski said on Twitter that he's "watched it 100 times and think about it every chase race." See what you think:

Look, put aside the fact that Ray Lewis has, at the very least, a checkered personal history; the man knows how to motivate. If you're not ready to run through a wall after watching that, you may in fact be asleep. Or worse.

Keselowski's 2012 championship run will end, one way or another, in Miami, which coincidentally enough is where Lewis played his college football. If Lewis does show up on Keselowski's pit box on Sunday, we'd imagine there wouldn't be any drivers trying to pull a Clint Bowyer chase-down on the No. 2.

2012 season in the rear view: Travis Kvapil

Vitals: 27th in the points standings. 0 wins, 0 top 5s, 1 top 10. 3 DNFs

Moment to remember: There's quite the restrictor plate theme to the best moments for drivers in this section of the standings, eh? Travis Kvapil's best finish of the year also came as a product of that morass in turns 3 and 4 on the final lap at Talladega where he finished eighth.

Moment to forget: At Indianapolis, Kvapil blew a tire and crashed after completing 40 laps. He finished 37th.

The wrap: Well, what can you say? Kvapil has become a consistent, if not household, name in NASCAR by being steady but not spectacular. And with a lower-budget team, he was a perfect driver to have to keep the fab shop expenses below budget.

The 2003 Camping World Truck Series team hasn't had a true chance with a top Sprint Cup team, and it's likely that he never will at this point in his career, but that doesn't mean he isn't a serviceable Cup driver. He missed the Daytona 500 because of Danica Patrick's presence -- David Reutimann was in the No. 93 -- but was consistently running at the finish and the plans to be replaced in the car by Reutimann eight more times were scuttled after Darlington.
