NASCAR won?t penalize Keselowski for using Twitter during Daytona 500

Good news: In a decision that will make the NFL, the NBA and Major League Baseball choke, NASCAR has determined that Brad Keselowski not only didn't violate any rules of unauthorized communication for his Daytona 500 Twitterfest, but encouraged him. Perfect move, NASCAR.

"Nothing we've seen from Brad violates any current rules pertaining to the use of social media during races," NASCAR said in a statement. "As such, he won't be penalized. We encourage our drivers to use social media to express themselves as long as they do so without risking their safety or that of others."

[Related: Brad Keselowski triples his Twitter followers during long Daytona delay]

That is absolutely the right decision, and high praise to NASCAR for not clinging to some outmoded idea of technology. Keselowski has been winning accolades from all over the sports world for his move, and NASCAR would be foolish to restrict something that, in itself, has nothing but positive effects on the race and the sport's connection to fans.

On Tuesday morning, Keselowski noted on Twitter that he would keep bringing his phone to the track if NASCAR let him. Looks like it's a go.

For more about Keselowski, check out the rain-delay chat we did with him and many NASCAR fans on Sunday afternoon, and keep an eye out for his first exclusive journal for Yahoo! Sports later this week.

Car crash: Lamborghini Aventador lost it on the snow

Driving on snow can be tricky and we’re sure that everyone who tried it has some pretty interesting experiences. However, not many of you can tell they had the chance to drive a Lamborghini Aventador on snow and loose control just in front of the spy photographers!

The spy photographers who witnessed the incident said: "Originally, our photographer thought the car coming down the road was an Aventador Roadster prototype. As the car approached the intersection, at a speed that appeared faster than the posted speed limit, the driver lost control, skidded through the intersection and crashed into a large snow bank."

Of course you can imagine he wasn’t very happy about the all situation and came to the photographer in a fairly aggressive manner. The problem is that while trying to do so he nearly fallen down. The good this is that an Audi A6 allroad, equipped with a winch, came to pull the raging bull out of the snow. In the end both the driver and the car was unhurt and the all incident ended with a thumbs up!

Joey Coulter?s wild Daytona flip from the grandstand

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? For the start of Friday night's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway, I sat in the second row ofthe frontstretch grandstands eight seats to the right of the start/finish line. I wasn't assigned to cover the race and opted to join my father to take in the event that always has memorable moments.

On Lap 12, we decided to move in search of a better view and fewer of those damn particulate debris blowing in our unprotected eyes. I was glad to do so, mainly for the view but also because the images of drivers like Carl Edwards and Geoffrey Bodine climbing the wire mesh and steel pole fencing in horrific crashes were in the back of my mind.

The thought had left me, even after the race leaders had finally taken the white flag after a bevy of cautions pushed the event past the expected distance and charged toward our seating location near the end of pit road. It was back, though, after watching Joey Coulter do this from the screen of my iPhone:

Coulter, in the No. 22 truck, was turned into the outside wall on the race's final lap. He caught contact from other trucks in the pack and 180 miles per hour of rushing air to lift his truck airborne and in to the catchfence. It was the only line of defense that stood between the racing surface and the spectators standing eight or so feet away. Coulter's truck rolled once and settled back on the track. He walked away unscathed from the incident.

The crash heavily bent one of the steel poles and ripped several feet of the wire mesh catch fencing. A piece of the sheet metal from Coulter's ride even appeared stuck in the fence.

Fortunately, a quick look at the spectators below me ? we had fortunately chosen to stay about 20 rows up instead of down low ? appeared to indicate no serious injuries. Reports later said two fans were injured but were expected to be OK. The catchfence worked, despite the extensive repair it will need before race cars return to the track Saturday morning to prepare for Sunday's Daytona 500.

By the way, NASCAR rookie John King was awarded the win after the caution for Coulter's incident ended the race.

As for me, the incident was nearly sensory overload. I've been to well over 75 NASCAR events both as fan and as a young, part-time credentialed media worker, yet I've never seen the raw fury of race vehicles getting so precipitously close to causing a catastrophe on the people there to merely be entertained for a few hours. Race cars getting airborne and in to fences is not a new thing, I know, but seeing it up close is equivalent to a gut punch.

One stray part, one faulty fence post or one stroke of horrible luck and Coulter's incident could have been much more than just standard highlight fodder. I'm just glad he ? and mostly everyone else in his potential line of fire ? made it through OK.

Now, if I can just get these hands to stop shaking.

What you need to know: Camping World Truck Series edition

The 2012 Camping World Truck Series kicks off Friday night at Daytona, and there are a bunch of familiar faces in new places.

The Truck Series schedule features 22 races -- down from 25 in 2011 -- and includes a trip to Rockingham Speedway, the first time NASCAR has been to the track since 2004. The series makes two trips to Texas, Kentucky, Iowa and Martinsville, and there's a five week break between Daytona and Martinsville, the second race of the season.

The 2011 champion, Austin Dillon, is off to drive the No. 3 in the Nationwide Series for Richard Childress Racing, and he's been replaced in the No. 3 truck by his brother, Ty, who was the 2011 ARCA champion.

With Kevin Harvick Inc.'s departure from the Truck and Nationwide Series, four-time Truck champion Ron Hornaday Jr. is driving the No. 9 for Joe Denette Motorsports. Another former champion, Todd Bodine, is in the No. 11 for Red Horse Racing at Daytona, but not for a full season just yet. That full season is, you guessed it, dependent on sponsorship.

The ThorSport trucks of Matt Crafton and Johnny Sauter are now Toyotas instead of Chevrolets. Sauter finished second to Austin Dillon last year.

Speaking of Toyotas, Jason Leffler is driving a partial schedule for Kyle Busch Motorsports. Could he get to victory lane?

Oh, Ward Burton is back! The former Daytona 500 winner is racing Friday night to help prep son Jeb for a run in the Truck Series. Jeb will take over the No. 27 at Martinsville.

What word describes Danica Patrick and starts with a ?b??

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? Haters gonna hate, as Danica Patrick well knows. Danica Patrick wins Nationwide pole at Daytona; gives naysayers something to chew on

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? A moment of silence, if you please, for the "Danica Patrick gets gifts she doesn't deserve" argument. Cause of death: Patrick's triumphant capture of the pole for Saturday's Nationwide Series Drive4COPD 300.

Here it is: You have to either accept that Patrick is a bona fide, legit stock car driver, or you have to buy a conspiracy that the entire Nationwide field, including Daytona 500 and Sprint Cup champions, laid down for her.

"Anytime you show that you have a fast car, it's encouraging for people to want to help you," Patrick said. "That starts to earn you some respect and credibility."

The pole comes just 24 hours after Patrick walked away from a brutal crash in the Sprint Cup Series' Gatorade Duel 150, a qualifying race for Sunday's Daytona 500.

Patrick posted a speed of 182.741 mph, besting Trevor Bayne by only seven one-thousandths of a second. As driver after driver tried and failed to match her time ? the field includes Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski ? Patrick fidgeted nervously in the garage, talking with Earnhardt and Stewart. Cameras swarmed her as the results became official.

[Related: Why Danica Patrick can win the Daytona 500]

"That's so cool for her to start her season that way," Bayne said. "They were looking for a boost, and that's a good kick in the butt."

In and of itself, the pole won't mean much at Daytona other than a choice pit selection. As soon as the green flag drops, drivers will jockey for position, and everyone will take a turn at the front. Still, Patrick has demonstrated that she can wheel, and as much as the drivers appreciate the attention to the sport, they acknowledge that she belongs exactly where she is.

"In the last 24 months," Elliott Sadler said, "she's by far the most improved driver we have across all three series."
