Kurt Busch makes Forbes list of disliked athletes for the second straight time

Kurt Busch's move to Phoenix Racing to get back to "old-school" and fun racing didn't do much for his public standing according to Forbes. For the second year in a row, Busch made the publication's list of the top 10 most disliked athletes.
After coming in at No. 10 last year, Busch was No. 8 this season, behind Michael Vick and ahead of Kobe Bryant.
In 2012, Busch was suspended for the season's first race at Pocono after threatening a reporter after a Nationwide Series race at Dover when Busch was asked about racing against Justin Allgaier. That incident was preceded by a fracas in May after the Southern 500 at Darlington when Ryan Newman's crew was unhappy with Busch's driving on pit road after a late race caution.
In September, the 2004 champion announced that he would be driving for Furniture Row Racing in 2013 and made the move to the team for the final six races of 2012. In his final race for Phoenix Racing, he drove away after getting spun out with safety officials near his car and an equipment bag on top of it and said that he couldn't hear NASCAR officials' calls for him to stop because he had his helmet off.
There was a tie atop the Forbes list between Lance Armstrong and Manti Te'o. Armstrong's place at the top after his doping admission is understandable. Te'o's is less so. Many people must be skeptical of Te'o's story that he was completely hoaxed by Roniah Tuiasosopo who was posing as Te'o's girlfriend, Lennay Kekua. Or they don't have much sympathy.

Contact between Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch sparks crash just minutes into Sprint Unlimited practice
It was perhaps too predictable.
Practices for the former Busch Clash and former Bud Shootout and now Sprint Unlimited are the first unofficial sessions of the new Sprint Cup season. That means drivers, in packs for the first time since January and for the first time in race ready cars. A crash during either of the two sessions is usually in the offing.
This year, there was the added dynamic of NASCAR's new car, a car that, as evidenced by testing in January, doesn't have bumpers that line up seamlessly like with the COT. Yeah, a crash was coming. And it did, happening just 10 minutes into Friday's practice.
To be fair, it would have also been a crash in the COT. Matt Kenseth was ahead of Kurt Busch and came down in front of Busch towards the low line. Only Kenseth wasn't clear. He went around, Busch went around. Mark Martin, who was immediately behind the two, spun as well. Juan Pablo Montoya (jet dryer unharmed) and Carl Edwards were collected too.
Busch, Edwards, Kenseth and Martin will start from the back of tomorrow's Unlimited, no matter what starting order is determined by the fan vote. Montoya's team fixed his car and he was able to make some laps in Friday's final practice, so he will start where he's supposed to.

Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
| Posted on 02.21.2013 01:56 by Sulthoni , Serafim |
Classic meets modern in the new 2013 Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500. The motorcycle features an old school design language which draws inspiration from the 1950s. Among the most important style details there are the big headlight, the fluid fuel tank and the robust exhaust pipes. We also like the comfortable seat which offers enough space for two people and the old school handlebars.
At the heart of the bike beats a powerful single cylinder, 4 stroke, twinspark, air cooled 500 cc engine. The engine has a displacement of 499 cc and cranks out 27.2 bhp 5250 rpm and 41.3 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm.
Other features worthy of being mentioned are the 20 litre fuel tank, digital meter console and LED tail lights. The motorcycle is offered in a distinctive "black" styling, which gives it a pretty aggressive look.

Analyzing the Valencia Moto3 Preseason Test: The Threat of a Spanish Fairy Tale, The New Engine Manufacturer, And Real Hopes for a Shy Girl
A new Moto3 season is about to start and, even if it is obviously too soon to talk about favourite contenders for the final crown, watching the fastest riders on the track and examining lap times can give an idea of how 2013 may play out in the smallest class. After three days of testing at the Ricardo Tormo racetrack -with nicer weather everyday- it is clear that KTM is a step ahead again. But lap times are not everything and these test sessions brought some other interesting facts. Preseason is always a time for hopes, wishes and nice words, as you can conclude from the quotes of riders and teams. Spanish riders have finished as the three fastest on lap times, but we cannot forget, as many of the Spanish sports newspapers do –fortunately not the motorcycle magazines-, Valencia is a home track for them, and things may turn out quite differently at a track outside of Spain. As experience has proved in the past, the start of a season may be quite different to its end.
As many expected, Maverick Viñales looks like being the strongest rider for the upcoming season. The Spaniard was the fastest rider in almost every session and his compatriots Alex Rins and Luis Salom followed him in the final standings. However, does this mean the season will be doomed to be a Spanish fairytale? Of course, it won't be necessarily that way. There are some other quick riders, such as German Jonas Folger, new Aussie hero Jack Miller, last season's biggest Italian surprise Romano Fenati or Great Britain's youngest hope John McPhee. If we talk about technical surprises, the newborn Mahindra-Suter project has showed a great potential on its first serious outing.

NASCAR, Swan Racing, Michael Waltrip announce Sandy Hook tribute car

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - NASCAR, Swan Racing and Michael Waltrip will do their part to contribute funding and awareness to the Sandy Hook relief effort with a custom-designed car to run in next week's Daytona 500.
Waltrip, the two-time Daytona 500 winner, will run for Swan Racing in the No. 26 car, a change from Swan's usual No. 30. The number 26 will be a tribute to the 20 children and six adults killed in the Sandy Hook massacre.
NASCAR president Brian France, whose family knew many of the victims, donated $50,000 to the Sandy Hook School Support fund, and NASCAR matched that. Fans can also donate $10 by texting NEWTOWN to 80888.
[Also: Drivers hounded about relationship between Danica Patrick, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.]
Waltrip, France and other NASCAR officials quietly visited Newtown last week to inform the town's leaders of their plans and pass along donations.
"Being in Newtown last week and delivering a moment of happiness to that community was unlike anything I?ve ever experienced," France said. "Looking out at a room of smiling faces amidst the aftermath of a horrible tragedy was very powerful. It hit me that the NASCAR industry and our passionate fan base, which always help those in need, have an unbelievable opportunity to rally around this cause and make a huge difference for a community in need."
The revelation of the car was a powerful moment in an otherwise highly scripted and casual Media Day. The central banquet hall at the track's 500 Club, which had been converted to a media workroom, was utterly silent as France and Waltrip discussed the plans. Waltrip noted that each of his cars will feature a request to fans to text donations to Sandy Hook.
"Driving the No. 26 Sandy Hook School Support Fund Toyota is like nothing I have ever been part of in my NASCAR career," Waltrip said. "It will be an emotional week knowing that we have the potential to do so much good for the Newtown community. I?m racing for a reason."

2013 Moto2 Valencia February Day 2 Test Times: Espargaro Takes Charge
Pol Espargaro has taken charge of the second day of testing for the Moto2 class at Valencia, the Tuenti HP 40 riders upping the pace and closing in on the pole record. Local boy Nico Terol was demoted to 2nd, two tenths off the pace of the Espargaro, and spent time on Wednesday testing the 2013 version of the Suter chassis, which he pronounced an improvement. Thomas Luthi secured 3rd spot, though only just, with both Julian Simon and Johan Zarco posting very strong challenges. Zarco, in particular, had a very strong second day of testing, improving his time from Tuesday by over two seconds. Scott Redding, 4th fastest on the Marc VDS Racing Kalex on Tuesday, could not make the same kind of step forward, and dropped down the order.
Danny Kent won the battle of the rookies, the Tech 3 rider getting the better of 2012 Moto3 champion Sandro Cortese by over half a second. Cortese once again found himself wrapped up in a battle with Kent's teammate Louis Rossi, the Frenchman five thousandths slower than Cortese, ceding an extra one thousandth of a second to the German on Wednesday.

Clint (Bowyer) has Clint (Eastwood) on his new helmet

Clint on Clint.
Before testing (finally) kicked off at Charlotte Motor Speedway after the rain subsided and the track was dry, Clint Bowyer tweeted a picture of his new helmet with Clint Eastwood on the back of it. It's pretty freaking awesome.
Now, should we give Clint Bowyer a new nickname? "Blondie" could work given his hair color. "Man with No Name" really wouldn't work because then we'd be calling a man with a name "Man with No Name", and that takes more effort than just saying "Clint Bowyer." Thoughts?
And because you know that we're not averse to boring, tired and cliche jokes, we have to wonder if Clint Bowyer will now talk to his empty driver's seat before every race now.

Notable names in the 2013 Rolex 24

The official start of the 2013 racing season is just a few hours away.
Many NASCAR and IndyCar drivers are competing in this year's Rolex 24, the kick-off to season-opening festivities at Daytona and they're also at the front of the field too.
Chip Ganassi's cars qualified 1-2 in the Daytona Prototype division, with the car of Scott Pruett, Charlie Kimball, Juan Pablo Montoya, and Memo Rojas on the pole and the car driven by Scott Dixon, Dario Franchitti, Jamie McMurray and Joey Hand in second.
AJ Allmendinger, who won last year's race in the DP division in the No. 60 for Michael Shank Racing, starts 6th in the same car. He'll be joined by Marcos Ambrose on that team. (As Geoffrey Miller noted, qualifying for a 24 hour race may be the only qualifying less meaningful than restrictor plate track qualifying.)
Sebastian Bourdais starts seventh, and last year's IndyCar Series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay starts 12th in DP.
In GT, defending champion and former NASCAR driver Andy Lally's team starts second. Max Papis, along with former F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella, start 12th and the MWR team of Clint Bowyer, Michael Waltrip and Rob Kauffman along with Rui Aguas starts 25th in GT. IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe starts 3rd in the new GX class.
Overall, 57 cars are entered in the race, which starts at 3:30 EST.
