Kyle Busch wins Prelude to the Dream at Eldora Speedway

Kyle Busch took advantage of the misfortune of Kasey Kahne and Clint Bowyer and won the 8th annual Feed the Children Prelude to the Dream at Eldora Speedway on Wednesday night, outrunning race host and organizer Tony Stewart over the final 16 laps.

If you were a Sprint Cup Series fan who found yourself wondering how much you would pay for a caution flag at certain points during the season's first 13 races, you certainly got your money's worth if you bought the late model dirt-track charity race on Pay-Per-View. The first half of the 40 lap feature was marred by caution after caution, including an eight car crash on the frontstretch on the third scored lap.

Kahne started on the pole and relinquished the lead to Bowyer, last year's winner, on lap 13. When Kahne went to get the lead back from Bowyer just a few laps later, he slid up into Bowyer's car trying to clear him. The contact sent Bowyer's car into the wall, and eventually into the garage after he got into the wall again on the next lap.

However, Kahne was the next car to find trouble. On lap 24, Bobby Labonte spun around and his car stopped in the high lane of turn 3, the preferred groove around the racetrack. Kahne swerved his car hard to the left in an attempt to avoid the parked Labonte, but ended up slamming into the driver's side of Labonte's car hard enough to rip his right front wheel completely off. (Both drivers were unhurt.)

Those events handed the lead to Busch, who started first with 16 laps to go and never relinquished the lead. By the time Stewart had moved from fifth to second, Busch already had an insurmountable advantage.

Danica Patrick, who drives for Stewart in the Sprint Cup Series, turned the first laps of her professional driving career on dirt on Wednesday. Patrick hit the wall during her heat race before the main feature and finished three laps down in 15th during the feature race.

Kurt Busch, suspended by NASCAR for Sunday's race at Pocono, was entered in the event and started on the pole for the fourth heat race before the feature but was caught up in two incidents in the heat race. The damage to his car was severe enough that he was unable to race in the main event.

Full results are below. Each of the race's top 10 finishers will have a food truck donated for Feed the Children in the city of their choice.

Pastor rises

Pastor Maldonado set the fastest time of the morning session in an overcast, but warm Valencia, but the F1 stars were again very closely matched, with 13 drivers within a second of the fastest time. The closest to Pastor was Sebastian Vettel, with Mark Webber third, all three of them covered by just 0.09s, with [...]

2012 Silverstone MotoGP Post-Race Round Up: A British Hero, Tire Problems And A Troubled Marriage

For the past few years, attending a MotoGP round has been a disheartening experience for most British fans. After sitting in traffic for several hours, they then faced a day getting soaked to the skin while watching their local heroes - if any were actually on the grid - circulating around at the rear of the pack. At the end of the day, they faced yet more hours sitting in a traffic chaos in a downpour to get home again. They loved it, of course, but it tested their courage.

2012 would be different. The miserable weather magically disappeared for race day - it was far from perfect, but it remained largely dry - Scott Redding got on the podium in Moto2, and Cal Crutchlow put on a heroic and brilliant performance in MotoGP. It might be fair to question the wisdom of Crutchlow's decision to lie about his foot not being broken and race anyway, but there is no question about his bravery or pain threshold, nor, after starting at the back of the grid and slicing through the field to finish 6th, matching the pace of race winner Jorge Lorenzo, about his ability. The British fans have a hero again. More than one, in fact.

Parity the dominant theme of the season?s first seven F1 races

Who would have thought that through June, 2012's most competitive major auto racing series would be Formula 1?

It's not a crazy thought.

When Mark Webber won at Monaco on Memorial Day weekend, he became the sixth different winner in the season's first six races, an unprecedented mark of variability in Formula 1. On Sunday at Montreal, Lewis Hamilton made it seven winners in seven races, winning his third Montreal Grand Prix of the last five years.

It's a far cry from last year -- or almost any other F1 year, honestly, when Sebastian Vettel won five of the season's first six races and Fernando Alonso, driving for Ferrari, was the only winner that wasn't a Red Bull or McLaren car. This year, the team parity has increased with the driver parity, as four teams have been to victory lane so far:

Australia: Jenson Button (McLaren)
Malaysia: Fernando Alonso (Ferrari)
China: Nico Rosberg (Mercedes)
Bahrain: Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull)
Spain: Pastor Maldonado (Williams)
Monaco: Mark Webber (Red Bull)
Canada: Lewis Hamilton (McLaren)

The variety in victory has also led to a lot of turnover at the top of the points standings. With his win on Sunday, Hamilton took over the top spot, the sixth lead change in the points standings.

Even through Jimmie Johnson's five-time title reign, parity has been a selling point of NASCAR and the Sprint Cup Series, and is what has made the NFL so popular, with its annual worst-to-first storylines every year. But, apparently some in the F1 paddock aren't so happy with the increased competition.

And while some traditionalists may not be a fan of the "any given Sunday" approach that's suddenly appeared in F1, it may be a boost for its future American presence. The series is scheduled to come to Austin and the Circuit of the Americas on November 18 and next year is slated to add a race in New Jersey.

Danica Patrick?s GoDaddy ads to de-emphasize sexy elements; winning races now important

For most of its existence, the web hosting company GoDaddy.com has built an image apparently cultivated by love-starved 14-year-old boys ? skin, sass and temptation. And it's worked well enough that GoDaddy has become an institution, albeit one you wouldn't want to show your mother.

Along the way, the company's centerpiece, the insanely controversial NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, has doffed her firesuit more than a time or two. The star of a record 10 Super Bowl ads, Patrick has been a willing participant in campaigns that skirt flyover-state notions of decency. (Even so, Patrick has always had a wry smile on the ads, like she was in on the joke all along.)

Here, for instance, is Patrick feeling the urge to shower:

You get the idea.

Now, though, Patrick and GoDaddy are looking to go legit ?or, at least, a little more legit. As USA Today notes, GoDaddy has hired a new advertising firm and is taking a less raunchy approach to its ads. That will, in turn, mean that Patrick likely won't be disrobing or body-painting scantily-clad models any more. The attention-grabbing tactics served their purpose:

"As the company grows, you tend to find yourself accommodating to the masses more as opposed to trying to be polarizing," Patrick said. "They achieved that size that they just need to have that solid, mainstream presence, and that trustworthiness and credibility and things that come along with taking a slightly more safer route. I'm ready for it."

And that seems to be just fine with Patrick, who is moving in a more conservative direction herself, sponsor-wise. Coca-Cola, Tissot watches and Nationwide Insurance, among others, are companies that don't need Patrick to writhe on a hood in a bikini.

Patrick has come under considerable scrutiny, and criticism, for her perceived line-jumping in moving through NASCAR's ranks. Put it this way: She's not as popular as she is because of her on-track statistics. Still, de-emphasizing the sexy side of her persona is a savvy move to combat much of the criticism she receives, and to help move her brand forward. Next step? Actually winning a doggone race.

Power Rankings: Greg Biffle will have you bow down

The race is done, and that means it's time for Power Rankings. Each week throughout the season, we'll size up who's rising and who's falling, based on current standings, behind-the-scenes changes, expected staying power, recent history and general gut feelings. It is not scientific, nor is it meant to be. And remember, whoever your favorite driver is, we're biased against him and like someone else better. We continue with a guy who's not going away, despite how badly we treat him...

1. Greg Biffle: All right, Biffle Believers, we give. We're a third of the way into the season, the guy is still at the top of the standings, and he led more laps than anyone Sunday night. He's got a ways to go to convince me he's a legit championship contender, but he's absolutely in the picture right now. Happy? Last week: 3.

2. Jimmie Johnson: Ever done something so phenomenally stupid in a car that, a few hours or days afterward, you wake up in a cold sweat and think, "Man, I really shouldn't have [stupid act censored because we don't want to give you monsters any ideas.]" Wonder if that's how Jimmie feels about toting Mr. Hendrick around last weekend after the All-Star win. Last week: 1.

3. Kasey Kahne: You gotta hand it to HurriKahne; six weeks ago we had left him for dead, but he rose up. Not in a Walking Dead way, either. He's a lot faster than those zombies. Speaking of which, why haven't we seen any celebrity zombies on that show? You know they're out there. Of course, with certain NASCAR drivers, it'd be hard to tell ... where were we? Oh, yeah: Kahne is good. Last week: 8.

4. Kyle Busch: Interesting, Kyle's rationale for why we've had so many relatively caution-free races: that these are "43 of the best drivers in the world." You hear that? KYLE BUSCH SAYS DANICA PATRICK IS "ONE OF THE BEST DRIVERS IN THE WORLD. That's how headlines are made, folks. You're welcome. Last week: 4.

5. Dale Earnhardt Jr.: You know, when Dale Earnhardt Jr. does actually win, it'll be a little sad, won't it? It'll be the end of a long line of jokes. "Ha ha Junior hasn't won since...uh, last week" doesn't carry the same sting, does it? Of course, at this point the Junior Victory Watch is racing The Rapture for first to arrive, so it may not be much of an issue. Last week: 5.

6. Matt Kenseth: We're now starting to see several drivers put together sustained powerful runs, which means that anybody who's not running up front is going to suffer. All of which is to say: chill out, Kensethians; your guy is just fine even though he dropped four spots. Last week: 2.

7. Denny Hamlin: Hamlin's rationale for why the race ended so early: "Everyone wanted to make last call." Works for me. Anybody in Charlotte, how often do you see NASCAR drivers around? Do you run into them at, like, gas stations and doctor's offices? That would be both awesome and oddly deflating. Last week: 9.

Carl Edwards8. Brad Keselowski: Another solid run for @Kes, highlighted by his accidental pit-road spinout of Tony Stewart. Keselowski apologized profusely, and I would too; last thing you need is Tony Stewart storing up grudges against you. You know the guy's got a whole instantly accessible database of who pissed him off and when, accessible at a moment's notice. Last week: 6.

9. Carl Edwards. All the Roush Fenway cars this past weekend were similarly patriotically themed, which made it very tough for them to stand out in the crowd. Say what you will about Danica Patrick (and, some weeks, Jamie McMurray), but at least you can see their cars from orbit. That's what we want out of a paint scheme. Last week: 11.

10. Martin Truex Jr.: Truex said in interviews before Charlotte that he was very happy at MWR and looking to potentially sign a contract there to re-up later this year. DUDE. Basic contract negotiation 101: make 'em want you! At the very least, negotiate your way out of the NAPA commercials. Last week: 10.

11. Tony Stewart: Smoke really does check out when he's not in the mix in a race. To be fair, he had absolute garbage the last two weeks in Charlotte; he was resigned rather than furious over the radio. Still, the guy usually doesn't start winning until this point in the season anyway. Last week: 7.

12. Kevin Harvick: Rumors are flying that Harvick's kid is going to be named "Otis." Probably untrue, but what the hell. I've got to say, a kid named "Otis Harvick" is going to be the absolute terror of the neonatal unit, and will be the alpha dog the rest of his life. Get on Otis's good side while he's still a fetus, people. Last week: 12.

Lucky Dog: Jeff Gordon. At last, a race where nothing went wrong! You know that his crew was wondering what was going to screw up in those final laps. Blown tire? Electrical failure? Meteor strike? But he escaped with a seventh-place finish.

DNF: Marcos Ambrose and AJ Allmendinger. Two strong cars, two unfortunate mechanical problems. These guys aren't in a position where they can afford to fall apart when they're running well in a race.
