Fiat 500L
| Posted on 04.27.2012 18:00 by Simona | |
The Fiat 500 is a great little car for anyone who is going on a solo mission, but anyone with a couple of kids in tow may need to look elsewhere. Fiat, well aware of the gap in their lineup, will be addressing this issue at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March with the 500L- an all-new model that expands the appeal of the brand?s iconic Fiat 500.
The new 500L (L stands for "Large") is a five-passenger model that expands the brand?s style and efficiency in the growing B-segment. It will be 163.0 inches long, 70.1 inches wide, and 65.4 inches tall. Under the hood, Fiat will place a choice of two petrol engines - the 101 HP 1.4 liter in-line four-cylinder engine from the standard 500 and a TwinAir version - as well as one diesel turbocharged 1.3 MultiJet II engine.
The Fiat 500L will be produced at the FIAT plant in Kragujevac, Serbia, and will arrive in the United States in 2013.
UPDATE 04/27/2012: Ford has unveiled three new videos for their brand new 500L. The three videos were produced during the "500L: a Fiat design approach" event and include interviews with the Fiat designers: Giolito, Guasco, and Wuppinger.

Cadillac ELR
| Posted on 04.27.2012 16:00 by Justin Cupler | |
With the recent leak from OnStar, we now have a good amount of certainty that the Cadillac ELR, a gas-electric hybrid that Cadillac teased back in 2011, is nearly a certainty to arrive for the 2014 model year. Its impeding release will mark the first time the luxury automaker will dive into the hybrid realm with a vehicle not named ?Escalade.?
However, this is not the first time in Caddy?s long history that it?s tread into the economy car world. The first one was the laughably Cavalier-like Cimarron. If you recall, Cadillac was so embarrassed by the Cimarron that the automaker refused to call it a Cadillac and instead dubbed it the ?Cimarron by Cadillac? originally. GM later forced a name change to ?Cadillac Cimarron.?
Needless to say Caddy does not want to relive those days, so there is certainly some understanding in this release taking so long. With this newfound evidence of its release, it is about time we take a closer look at the 2014 Cadillac ELR and see how it stacks up against others luxury hybrids.
Click past the jump to read the entire review to see if the ELR will end up on TIME?s ?50 Worst Cars of All Time? list alongside the Cimarron.

Lamborghini trademarks "Huracán" name
| Posted on 04.27.2012 17:00 by Simona | |
A few weeks ago Lamborghini trademarked the Deimos name and some people thought that this was the chosen name for their upcoming SUV, but now rumors have begun abut a new Lambo trademark - the "Huracn" - which is "hurricane" in Spanish and the god of fire, wind, and storms in Mayan mythology. Now the question is which name was chosen for the future SUV and why did Lamborghini trademark two names?
The only two new models Lamborghini has officially confirmed in development are the new Gallardo set to arrive next year and a production version of the recently announced Urus Concept set to arrive in 2017. The new Gallardo was rumored to be called the Cabrera, so we are not really sure what is going on at this point.
Maybe we are looking at the name of a future concept, or even the name of the production Estoque, since Lamborghini CEO Stefan Winkelmann is still pushing that issue. Whatever is behind the choice in trademarks, we’ll find out as soon as possible and g=bring back some information!

Dale Earnhardt Jr.: ?I feel like I?m the best?

KANSAS CITY, Kan. ? In all fairness to Jimmie Johnson's run of five straight championships, if you were to say "the streak" when talking about NASCAR, we all know what's going to pop into the majority of NASCAR fans minds: Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s winless drought.
The streak still lives, by the way. It's at 136 races and counting and has led to every Junior joke and one-liner imaginable. But through it all, Junior still maintains that he's the best. Yes, and that includes the five-time champion.
"No, he's a hell of a race car driver, but I feel like I'm the best," Junior said on Friday. "I think that's the way you have to feel. I feel that I'm smarter than everybody and I can drive better than everybody and I know a lot of people ain't going to agree with that, but I feel pretty strong about it."
Given his performance this year, he should. Junior is tied for second in the points standings, and as we said earlier this year, a win is very very close.
And honestly, it may be more noteworthy if Junior said that he wasn't the best. It's an essential attribute to have for a driver ? you can't win a championship, let alone a race, unless you feel you're capable of doing so. Junior does say that there is a hierarchy at Hendrick Motorsports, but that it's about tenure.
"There is a bit of a pecking order and it really comes down to what you've done lately," Junior said. "I think that Jimmie and Jeff [Gordon] will always carry a certain role in that company that I will probably never achieve just due to them being there that long and having that trust build up with Rick [Hendrick] and all the employees there and their accomplishments obviously. I've never felt that was a disadvantage to me. I felt like I have everything they have. I've had the same opportunity and I've never really felt like Jimmie's car was better than mine or his team was better than mine or somebody was getting something I wasn't getting. I've never really had that feeling because everything there is just so good."

This funny car came apart at the seams
While we wait for the first photos from Tony Stewart's visit with President Obama to arrive, here's some video from the weekend of a funny car blowin' up real good:
Fortunately, driver Matt Hagan was uninjured. The car, however, was not so lucky. Its name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
