2012 Silverstone MotoGP Post-Race Round Up: A British Hero, Tire Problems And A Troubled Marriage
For the past few years, attending a MotoGP round has been a disheartening experience for most British fans. After sitting in traffic for several hours, they then faced a day getting soaked to the skin while watching their local heroes - if any were actually on the grid - circulating around at the rear of the pack. At the end of the day, they faced yet more hours sitting in a traffic chaos in a downpour to get home again. They loved it, of course, but it tested their courage.
2012 would be different. The miserable weather magically disappeared for race day - it was far from perfect, but it remained largely dry - Scott Redding got on the podium in Moto2, and Cal Crutchlow put on a heroic and brilliant performance in MotoGP. It might be fair to question the wisdom of Crutchlow's decision to lie about his foot not being broken and race anyway, but there is no question about his bravery or pain threshold, nor, after starting at the back of the grid and slicing through the field to finish 6th, matching the pace of race winner Jorge Lorenzo, about his ability. The British fans have a hero again. More than one, in fact.

Parity the dominant theme of the season?s first seven F1 races
Who would have thought that through June, 2012's most competitive major auto racing series would be Formula 1?
It's not a crazy thought.
When Mark Webber won at Monaco on Memorial Day weekend, he became the sixth different winner in the season's first six races, an unprecedented mark of variability in Formula 1. On Sunday at Montreal, Lewis Hamilton made it seven winners in seven races, winning his third Montreal Grand Prix of the last five years.
It's a far cry from last year -- or almost any other F1 year, honestly, when Sebastian Vettel won five of the season's first six races and Fernando Alonso, driving for Ferrari, was the only winner that wasn't a Red Bull or McLaren car. This year, the team parity has increased with the driver parity, as four teams have been to victory lane so far:
Australia: Jenson Button (McLaren)
Malaysia: Fernando Alonso (Ferrari)
China: Nico Rosberg (Mercedes)
Bahrain: Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull)
Spain: Pastor Maldonado (Williams)
Monaco: Mark Webber (Red Bull)
Canada: Lewis Hamilton (McLaren)
The variety in victory has also led to a lot of turnover at the top of the points standings. With his win on Sunday, Hamilton took over the top spot, the sixth lead change in the points standings.
Even through Jimmie Johnson's five-time title reign, parity has been a selling point of NASCAR and the Sprint Cup Series, and is what has made the NFL so popular, with its annual worst-to-first storylines every year. But, apparently some in the F1 paddock aren't so happy with the increased competition.
And while some traditionalists may not be a fan of the "any given Sunday" approach that's suddenly appeared in F1, it may be a boost for its future American presence. The series is scheduled to come to Austin and the Circuit of the Americas on November 18 and next year is slated to add a race in New Jersey.

Danica Patrick?s GoDaddy ads to de-emphasize sexy elements; winning races now important
For most of its existence, the web hosting company GoDaddy.com has built an image apparently cultivated by love-starved 14-year-old boys ? skin, sass and temptation. And it's worked well enough that GoDaddy has become an institution, albeit one you wouldn't want to show your mother.
Along the way, the company's centerpiece, the insanely controversial NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, has doffed her firesuit more than a time or two. The star of a record 10 Super Bowl ads, Patrick has been a willing participant in campaigns that skirt flyover-state notions of decency. (Even so, Patrick has always had a wry smile on the ads, like she was in on the joke all along.)
Here, for instance, is Patrick feeling the urge to shower:

Now, though, Patrick and GoDaddy are looking to go legit ?�or, at least, a little more legit. As USA Today notes, GoDaddy has hired a new advertising firm and is taking a less raunchy approach to its ads. That will, in turn, mean that Patrick likely won't be disrobing or body-painting scantily-clad models any more. The attention-grabbing tactics served their purpose:
"As the company grows, you tend to find yourself accommodating to the masses more as opposed to trying to be polarizing," Patrick said. "They achieved that size that they just need to have that solid, mainstream presence, and that trustworthiness and credibility and things that come along with taking a slightly more safer route. I'm ready for it."
And that seems to be just fine with Patrick, who is moving in a more conservative direction herself, sponsor-wise. Coca-Cola, Tissot watches and Nationwide Insurance, among others, are companies that don't need Patrick to writhe on a hood in a bikini.
Patrick has come under considerable scrutiny, and criticism, for her perceived line-jumping in moving through NASCAR's ranks. Put it this way: She's not as popular as she is because of her on-track statistics. Still, de-emphasizing the sexy side of her persona is a savvy move to combat much of the criticism she receives, and to help move her brand forward. Next step? Actually winning a doggone race.
